For Those Who Feel the Pull

Maybe your nonna kept a garden the neighbors didn't understand. Maybe your house smelled like Sunday sauce every week. Maybe you grew up knowing, somewhere in your bones, that you belonged somewhere you'd never actually been. I know that feeling. I grew up with it too.

I'm Josephine Ingoglia-Sparacia. I was born in Queens to a household where Sicily lived in every meal, every argument, every gesture of my nonni's hands. I spent every summer of my childhood here. I married Nino — a fifth-generation olive farmer from Partanna, the same corner of Sicily my own family came from. We kept coming back. In 2023, we stopped leaving.

Isola Marea grew from that. It's not a tour company. It's a sharing — of land that belongs to my family, of relationships I've built over decades, of access that can't be manufactured because it was never designed for visitors in the first place. The connections in the villages of western Sicily were built over a lifetime. That's the kind of knowledge you can only carry if you belong somewhere — not just visit it.

If you feel the pull — the draw back to the island your nonni or great-grandparents left, or simply the recognition that there's a version of Sicily no guidebook can give you — I want you to know: I felt it too, for most of my life. And I know exactly where it leads.

That's why you can trust me with this. Not because I have a certificate or a portfolio. Because I am you, further along. I know what you're carrying when you say you want to go back. I know what you're hoping to find. And I know this island — not as a destination I discovered, but as the place I belong.

"My nonni left Sicily. I spent my whole life finding my way back."

How We Work

Every Kind of Return

Six ways I work — each one rooted in real relationships, real land, and access that can't be replicated by anyone who showed up as a visitor.

Local Host

In-person days I lead among the people, places, and rhythms that exist outside the tourist economy. Designed specifically for each person who asks.

The Event Calendar

An insider's guide to festivals, sagre, and cultural events across Sicily — the ones that don't have English websites, the ones locals know about and visitors miss entirely. Updated season by season. Built for travel professionals and independent travelers who want to time their trip right.

"A day with Giusy is like having your cousin from Queens show you Sicily through her eyes. Giusy made herself available throughout our time in Sicily. She's a foodie — your best meals will be with Giusy, I promise. Our favorite days were with her; her easy smile and warmth was a light for us and everyone we met. She also planned a heritage visit that left our hearts full of the Sicilian sun and rediscovered family."

"She doesn't just show you Sicily — she makes you feel it. Every corner of Partanna came alive through her eyes — the laughter, the stories, the scent of lemon trees at sunset. Josephine is more than a travel companion; she's a force of warmth, wisdom, and light. Being with her turns a trip into a memory you'll carry forever."

The Heritage Olive Farm

My family has farmed this land in Partanna for five generations. The trees are old enough to have names. The oil is pressed the same way it was pressed before anyone alive was born. This isn't a boutique retreat or a curated "agriturismo experience." It's a working farm, a living inheritance, and an invitation into the rhythms of agricultural life that shaped Sicily long before it became a destination.

I live here. My husband tends the trees. People arrive not as visitors but as extensions of the household — present for the pressing, present for the pruning, present for the long lunches that happen because the day calls for them.

"We really felt like we got to join a cool Italian family — full of history and knowledge of not just olive oil but how to live a beautiful life in a spectacular, magical place."

"A trip of a lifetime — so many beautiful memories and experiences. We truly would not have been able to do the things we did without being with someone that speaks the language and knows where to go. Your love for family, friends, and Sicily shines in all you do."

The Pull

I grew up in Queens in a house that smelled like oranges and olive oil, where Sicily was what every dinner was about and the answer to every question about who we were. I spent every summer of my life on this island. I married a fifth-generation olive farmer from Partanna. After 2020, I stopped pretending I hadn't already arrived.

Isola Marea isn't a company. It's what grew from a return.

"We greatly enjoyed Josephine and the knowledge and background she was able to provide to us. We thoroughly enjoyed the ricotta cheese experience, the tour of old Montevago, and many great lunches — specifically Caltabellotta. The personal and private meals and tours were very special to experience."
